Blood Moon Eclipse; A Global Phenomenon with Over 7 Billion Viewers
On Sunday evening (September 7, 2025), the sky will host one of the largest total lunar eclipses of the year; a phenomenon known as the “Blood Moon” due to the dark red color of the moon and visible to more than 80 percent of the world’s population.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - General: According to astronomical sources, the total lunar eclipse of September 16 will become one of the most record-breaking eclipses in history due to the special position of the planets and the moon’s proximity to the perigee. In this event, the moon will pass through the darkest part of the Earth’s shadow and turn a deep and eerie red color.

The total eclipse phase will last about 82 minutes. The best view of this phenomenon will be visible to residents of Asia, Western Australia, Europe and Africa, while the Americas will be deprived of seeing it.

This lunar eclipse is not only visually beautiful, but also scientifically important, as it provides a good opportunity to study the Earth's atmosphere and the refraction of sunlight. The red color of the Moon is the result of sunlight passing through the Earth's atmosphere and scattering the blue spectrum, so that only reddish light reaches the Moon's surface.
