Foreign Minister: Afghan political missions should try to attract aid for earthquake victims

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Kabul: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release saying that Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, in a conversation with Afghan political representatives abroad, emphasized the need to mobilize global aid for the victims of the recent earthquake in Kunar and other eastern provinces.

 

He has ordered diplomatic missions to consult with charitable institutions, government officials and philanthropists in the host countries, explain the situation of the earthquake victims to them, and prepare the ground for attracting more aid and facilities.

 

According to official statistics, the recent earthquake in Kunar Province has left at least 1,457 dead and 3,394 injured. At the same time, the Ministry of Public Health announced that a temporary hospital with a capacity of 50 beds has been opened in Nangarhar Province to treat the injured.

 

It is worth noting that a number of countries have so far sent first aid to the earthquake victims, and some others have also expressed their readiness to send aid.

 

China, Pakistan, Iran, India, Germany, and Switzerland are among the countries that have expressed their readiness to provide assistance.

 

International relief organizations such as the Red Cross and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees have also dispatched assessment teams to the affected areas.

 

According to experts, the active role of Afghanistan's political missions abroad can pave the way for attracting more aid and better coordination among donor countries. Studies show that the faster and more transparently the process of attracting aid is managed, the more likely it is that the humanitarian crisis will spread in the affected areas.
