Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-International Service: The Russian Emergencies Ministry announced on Friday morning, September 4, that the country’s first humanitarian aid shipment, including food, was transferred to Afghanistan via an Ilyushin-76 plane from Moscow’s Zhukovsky Airport.
According to Russian officials, this shipment is the first aid package sent and another flight carrying humanitarian aid is scheduled to be sent to Afghanistan in the coming days.
The aid was sent on the orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin and by the decision of the country’s government.
The move comes after a powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Kunar province on Sunday night, destroying many villages and cutting off roads in some areas.
According to the latest statistics, the death toll from the earthquake has reached more than 2,200 people and around 3,600 injured.
