Afghanistan; A country rich in mineral resources and with vast potential for investment in the energy sector

Afghanistan's presidential palace said in a statement on Saturday that a program entitled "Attracting Investment and Supporting Afghanistan's Electricity Sector" was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Kabul.

 

The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials of the Islamic Emirate, Ministers of Energy of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan, representatives of the United Nations, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, representatives of embassies, domestic and foreign private sector officials, NGOs and representatives of renewable energy supporting organizations.

 

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar Akhund, the prime minister's deputy economic minister, told the conference that Afghanistan is a rich country for large, medium and small investments with its vast reserves of raw materials. He added that the country's extensive hydropower, wind and solar resources provide the capacity for self-sufficiency in the energy sector as well as the possibility of exporting to countries in the region.

 

He considered the conference as an important opportunity to introduce investment capacities, attract domestic and foreign investors, explore challenges and find practical solutions, and expressed hope that the results of the meeting would be applicable and useful.

 

The Deputy Prime Minister also called on the countries of the region, the international community and international financial institutions to end the financial and banking restrictions imposed on Afghanistan; The restrictions, he said, have affected the process of foreign investment and are to the detriment of the country, the region and even the world.

 

 

Meanwhile, Mohammad Omar Asozadeh, director of the Tajik Electricity Company, stressed at the meeting that Tajikistan has cooperated with Afghanistan in the electricity sector and this cooperation will continue in the CASA 1000 project.
