Signing of Memorandum of Understanding to Produce 9,407 MW of Electricity in the Country

 

According to the announcement of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs; contracts for the production of 284 MW of electricity were finalized, which will pave the way for the practical implementation of the projects.

 

Also, practical work on infrastructure projects has begun, including the following: extension of the 500 kV Surkhan-Pul-Khumri line, expansion of the Dasht-e-Alwan and Arghandi substations, and extension of the 220 kV line to the Sheikh Misri substation and expansion of this substation.

 

It is said that these projects will be implemented with an investment of $250 million between Uzbekistan and the Breshna Company and are part of the national program for developing energy infrastructure in the country.

 

In his speech, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, while emphasizing Afghanistan’s extensive capacities in producing hydroelectric, wind, and solar power, called on the international community and international institutions to end the banking and financial restrictions imposed on Afghanistan. He said: “These restrictions have severely affected the process of foreign investment and have prevented the exploitation of the country’s natural resources.”

 

Mullah Baradar added that effective use of energy resources can make Afghanistan self-sufficient in electricity production and pave the way for energy exports to regional countries.
