Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Thousands of Washington residents took to the streets on Saturday, September 6 (local time) to protest the continued presence of the National Guard in the US capital, and marched toward the White House with slogans against the presence of military forces.
According to American media reports, the demonstration, titled "We are all Washington, DC," began in Meridian Hill Park and continued to Freedom Plaza near the White House.
AFP described Saturday's protests as the "most organized" demonstration against the deployment of the National Guard in Washington.
Participants carried signs with slogans such as “End the occupation of Washington” and “Washington must be liberated,” as well as anti-Trump slogans such as “Trump must go now” and “Resist tyranny.”
The protests came as the deployment of federal and National Guard troops entered its fourth week. Trump has taken control of local police by declaring a state of emergency under the pretext of combating crime and homelessness, a move that local officials say has had no effect on reducing crime.
Washington Attorney General Brian Schwalbe called the move a “forced military occupation” and filed a formal lawsuit to stop it. At the same time, Washington Mayor Moriah Boeser issued an executive order to end the state of emergency. According to the order, National Guard troops will remain in the city until at least December, although some of them will operate in non-security roles.
Reports indicate that more than 2,000 National Guard troops, including troops from states such as Texas and South Carolina, have been deployed to the city on alert, some of whom are armed, especially in tourist areas. Critics warn that the deployment of these forces is a dangerous example of military intervention in city government that could have wide political consequences for the United States.
Trump-style dictatorship
Meanwhile, Senator Chris Van Hollen described Trump’s action in sending armed guards to Washington as an “abuse of power” and a kind of “dictatorial show.” He said: “Everyone knows this is a fake emergency ... Trump is acting like a dictator in Washington.”
Senator Tommy Duckworth also said in a statement: “This is what dictators do to destroy democracy.”
Not long ago, the Axios news website wrote in an analysis that US President Donald Trump, in just seven months since the start of his new presidential term, has succeeded in exerting widespread dominance over the country's major institutions and eliminating the independence of many of them.
Although the founders of the United States of America and the initial drafters of the country's constitution have tried to prevent the dominance of each branch of government over the other and to somehow limit and control the various branches of government, it seems that Donald Trump has little interest in this constitution.
In this regard, Trump has gradually "weakened and emptied" the independence of major US institutions and has left almost no area untouched on the path to gaining unbridled power.
