The shipment, which includes 20 tons of tents and blankets, was sent on the direct orders of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the report said. Russia has previously sent 20 tons of similar aid to Afghanistan.
The aid comes as a 6-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Afghanistan on Sunday night, causing heavy damage and casualties.
According to official figures, 2,205 people were killed and more than 3,600 injured in Kunar province alone. More than 6,000 houses were also destroyed in the province.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, the aid is being sent to Afghanistan in coordination with international organizations and part of the shipments are to be distributed in Kunar and other parts in neighboring provinces.
Observers say the increase in foreign aid from countries such as Russia shows the importance of humanitarian relations in Afghanistan's crisis. The aid can meet some of the immediate needs of the earthquake victims, but given the extent of the damage, the need for more aid and international coordination remains serious.
