Grossi: We are negotiating with Tehran / No trip to Iran planned at the moment
In his recent press conference, Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, referred to the process of negotiations with Iran and emphasized that inspections of the country's nuclear facilities should be resumed. He also announced that he has no plans to travel to Tehran at the moment, but hopes that the visit will be carried out within the framework of normalizing relations.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Grossi said: "We are negotiating with Iran at various levels and technical meetings have been held with the country's officials. I have also had a phone call with Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and I believe that we are moving in the right direction."

Regarding the trigger mechanism, Grossi clarified that this issue is not under his supervision and that the decision in this regard will fall to the three European countries. He added: "Politics is not my area, but the resumption of inspections can have a positive message for the region and the world."

In response to a question about the assassination of Iranian nuclear scientists, Grossi said: “I am a diplomat and it is not my job to get involved in political conflicts. Condemning such actions is outside the responsibility of the IAEA Director General.”

He also emphasized that the IAEA does not transfer Iranian classified information to any country and that protecting this information has always been on the agenda.

Referring to the technical and political challenges in the inspection process, Grossi said: “It is difficult to access some of the facilities that have been damaged, and the internal situation in Iran has also changed, requiring decisions to be made at the highest level.”

He added that Iran had announced a new enrichment site before the recent Israeli attacks, but developments prevented inspections from being carried out. He expressed hope that this process would resume when conditions return to normal.

In conclusion, Grossi said: “I hope that Iran remains a member of the NPT. This treaty has many benefits and withdrawing from it could have serious consequences for international security.”
