Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Kabul: According to the FAO statement, the carcasses of the animals have been buried in the areas of “Dara Mazar” in Nur Gul district and “Dara Dewa Gul” in Suki district.
The organization added that its teams have also treated and vaccinated animals that survived the earthquake. The aforementioned measures help protect the main sources of food and income of the affected families.
The FAO further stated that the sanitary management of live and dead animals plays an important role in preventing the spread of diseases shared between humans and animals.
Last week's earthquake in Kunar province killed more than 2,205 people and injured more than 3,600 others. The event also caused the death of a large number of livestock and pets.
Observers believe that the burial and vaccination of animals in earthquake-hit areas, in addition to reducing the risk of disease, will help ensure food security and protect families' livelihoods.
Studies show that these measures, along with the distribution of food and medical aid, are essential to reducing the consequences of the post-earthquake crisis.
