The underground shopping center in the Pul-e-Khishti and Chowk Sepahi-e-Gonnam area of Kabul city was officially inaugurated and put into operation today (Tuesday, September 9) in the presence of Islamic Emirate officials, traders, industrialists, businessmen and representatives of the private sector. This project was built on 7,745 square meters of land with the participation of Kabul Municipality and Shaheen Afghan Company, at a cost of 790 million Afghanis.

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-Kabul: This market has 340 modern and standard shops, six entrance and exit gates, complete underground facilities, service channels, and asphalted roads and sidewalks. According to the agreement, 35 percent of its revenues will go to Kabul Municipality and 65 percent to Shaheen Afghan Company.
Engineer Maiwand Dosti, senior consultant of Shaheen Afghan Company, considered the project an important step in Kabul’s economic development and said that the center could provide employment for more than 1,000 people directly and another 2,000 indirectly.
Referring to the damage caused by four decades of war, Mawlawi Mohammad Khalid Sajistani, deputy mayor of Kabul, said: “Kabul Municipality is currently implementing more than 200 development projects at a cost of millions of Afghanis, which in addition to changing the face of the city, will create new job opportunities for citizens.”
He called on the public to play an active role in protecting public projects, observing business ethics, avoiding hoarding and fraud, and supporting urban development.
Khane Jan Alokozai, a board member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, also considered the project a milestone in Kabul’s economic path and said: “In the past, similar projects failed due to corruption, but today we are witnessing real exploitation. "This market will generate an annual revenue of one and a half billion Afghanis, which will benefit not only the municipality, but also the people and the private sector."
He called on the Islamic Emirate to adhere to its commitments to the private sector and for the private sector to show seriousness in fully implementing contracts.
