Minister of Economy Calls for Continued Humanitarian and Development Assistance from the International Community in Afghanistan
The Ministry of Economy has announced that the Minister of the Ministry, in a meeting with the Deputy Director of the World Food Program and the Director of this organization in Afghanistan, called for the continuation of humanitarian assistance and greater focus by the international community on development assistance in order to create job opportunities and economic self-sufficiency for people affected by climate change and natural disasters.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Kabul: The press office of the Ministry of Economy announced today (Saturday, September 13) in a press release that Qari Din Mohammad Hanif, Minister of Economy, met and discussed with Ms. Rania Aldash, Deputy Director of the World Food Program, and John Elif, Director of this organization in Afghanistan.
 
In this meeting, the two sides emphasized accelerating the process of humanitarian assistance to the needy, improving transparency, coordination and continuous cooperation of relief organizations in providing humanitarian and development assistance.
 
The Minister of Economy, while appreciating the humanitarian assistance of the World Food Program, called for the continuation of this process and greater focus on development assistance to provide employment and economic self-sufficiency for vulnerable people.
 
He also considered the lifting of sanctions and the liberalization of Afghanistan’s foreign exchange capital to be important and vital in solving the problems of the private sector, attracting foreign investment, and developing the country’s economy.
 
The Minister of Economy continued to provide information to the audience about the extensive dimensions of the destruction, loss of life and property caused by the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces of the country, and the urgent and basic needs of the affected people.
 
Also, considering the intensification of the process of forced expulsion of Afghan refugees from neighboring countries, the Minister of Economy called for the participation and support of the international community in the process of returning refugees.
 
Expressing sympathy for the victims of the recent earthquake, Ms. Rania Aldash assured that she would convey a clear picture of Afghanistan’s needs to global donors to provide development assistance in areas such as building water canals, building schools, increasing social services, and providing technical and vocational training to create job opportunities.
 
John Elif also assured the commitment and continued cooperation of the United Nations and the World Food Program with the people of Afghanistan, under the leadership of the Ministry of Economy.
