Araqchi in a letter to Guterres: Restoring the canceled Security Council resolutions against Iran is illegal

Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Iranian Foreign Minister, in a letter to the UN Secretary-General, warned against the efforts of three European countries and the United States to restore the canceled Security Council resolutions against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

 

In this letter, Seyyed Abbas Araqchi emphasized that the actions of these countries are legally and procedurally flawed and have no legal basis. He noted that the attempt to revive the expired resolutions is not only legally baseless, but also politically and morally unjustifiable, since the issues related to Iran’s nuclear program have already been resolved through the JCPOA and Resolution 2231.

 

Araghchi also referred to the illegal military actions of the Israeli and American regimes against Iran’s nuclear facilities and said that the previous resolutions have become practically obsolete and irrelevant to the existing realities. He recalled that the Security Council cannot act on the basis of the defective correspondence of the three European countries and that no member of the UN is obliged to implement the previous restrictions.

 

The Iranian Foreign Minister has called on the UN Secretary-General to prevent these countries from abusing the Secretariat to exert political pressure on Iran and that no UN resources be allocated to revive the illegal sanctions.

 

Araghchi emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready for balanced and fair diplomacy, but any attempt at pressure and confrontation will result in an appropriate response from Iran, and the full responsibility for it lies with the countries that have chosen the path of confrontation.

 

Araghchi's letter was presented as an official document to the UN General Assembly and Security Council and reflects Iran's firm stance against the efforts of the three European countries and the United States to restore sanctions.

 

Iran's action coincided with the recent Security Council vote on the draft resolution by Russia and China, which indicates the lack of consensus in the Council on restoring sanctions.

 

International diplomats believe that this letter can create a basis for emphasizing Iran's sovereignty and preventing political abuse of the United Nations.
