Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Russian president announced in an official decree that 135,000 men between the ages of 18 and 30 will be called up for military service from October 1 to the end of December 2025.
The autumn draft is the largest such draft in Russia in nearly a decade and, along with the 160,000 people who were drafted in this year's spring draft, makes 2025 one of the largest draft years in the country.
Russia calls up eligible men for one-year service in the army twice a year, in the spring and autumn. Most of these soldiers reportedly serve at military bases inside Russia, although some have also been deployed to the front lines of the war in Ukraine.
The calls are not related to general mobilization, which is carried out in wartime, but those who have received military training are likely to be deployed to combat operations if needed.
Vladimir Putin has also ordered an increase in the number of active Russian military personnel to 1.5 million this year.
