Zamir Kabulov: Kabul will not allow the US to return to Bagram base
Zamir Kabulov, the special representative of the Russian President for Afghanistan, has announced that the Afghan government will not allow the establishment of any foreign base on its territory, and this issue also includes the Bagram air base.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Zamir Kabulov told reporters at a press conference after the Moscow Format consultative meeting: "The Afghan Foreign Minister, during bilateral talks with Sergei Lavrov, firmly stated that the Afghan government will not allow the establishment of any foreign base on its territory (Afghanistan). This issue also includes the Bagram air base."

The Russian President's representative for Afghanistan also added that his country does not intend to establish its military bases in Afghanistan.

He described the Moscow Format consultative meeting as a demonstration of the commitment of all countries in the region to continue actively developing relations with the International Energy Agency in all areas of mutual interest.

Kabulov stated that all participants were unanimous in supporting the Afghan people in overcoming the consequences of 20 years of occupation and developing their economy.

He also said that Russia welcomes discussions on the resumption of the work of the US embassy in Afghanistan.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in his opening remarks that the deployment of third-party military infrastructure in Afghanistan was unacceptable.

The Russian Foreign Minister also said that he and the Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate had discussed the prospects for developing relations between the countries.

The Russian Foreign Minister added that the presence of forces from trans-regional actors could lead to instability and new conflicts.

He added that the history of Afghanistan shows that the military presence in this country has caused many problems and everyone must draw the right conclusions.

The seventh consultative meeting of the "Moscow Format" was held in Moscow with the participation of representatives of the Islamic Emirate, Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, China, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

This year, for the first time, Amir Khan Muttaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, participated in the meeting as a member. The Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate attended the sixth Moscow Format meeting as a guest last year.
