Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson: Baseless Claims of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union Condemned
Esmail Baghaei, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in response to the joint statement of the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council and the European Union, considered the claims made in the statement regarding the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa Islands as “interventionist, baseless and rejected” and warned against the divisive interference of some European countries in regional affairs.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Tehran: In a statement, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran emphasized Iran’s indisputable and permanent sovereignty over the Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa Islands, calling these islands an integral part of Iran’s territorial territory and stated: “Repeating baseless claims in political statements has no legal value and does not change geographical and historical realities.”

Baqai appreciated the Iranian citizens inside and outside the country who have condemned these claims in contact with the Foreign Ministry and Iranian diplomatic missions, and advised the countries of the southern Persian Gulf to “focus on strengthening mutual trust and confronting the main threat to the region, which is the Zionist regime, instead of providing the ground for third-party interventions.”

He also criticized some European Union member states, including Germany and France, saying: “These countries have adopted a deceitful and divisive policy towards Iran and the region by comprehensively supporting the genocidal regime of Israel and imposing their political ambitions on the European Union.”

The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman considered the statements in the joint statement about Iran’s defense capabilities to be “unwarranted and unacceptable interference” in the country’s sovereign affairs, adding: “Countries that have turned the region into an arsenal of destructive weapons by selling weapons do not have the authority to comment on Iran’s indigenous defense capabilities.”

Referring to the weak and non-independent performance of the three European countries that are members of the JCPOA, Baghaei said: "It is shameful that the parties that are the cause of the current situation are now in the position of claimants. What is more regrettable is that instead of making demands, the Gulf Cooperation Council countries have provided a platform for projecting the European Union."
