Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Israeli Navy announced this morning (Wednesday, October 8) of the attack on the ships of the Turkish Freedom Flotilla that were heading towards Gaza and announced that it had detained all the crew.
The occupying army announced in a statement that at 07:39 this morning, the Israeli Navy attacked the ships of the Freedom Flotilla that were heading towards Gaza and detained all the crew.
Israel's Channel 12 also announced that it had detained 150 crew members of the flotilla and that they were being transferred to the port of Ashdod.
The Global Resistance Fleet management announced via Platform X this morning that the Israeli Navy had attacked the Freedom Flotilla, which was on its way to break the blockade of Gaza.
The International Committee to End the Siege of Gaza also confirmed that the Israeli army had attacked the flotilla in international waters, 222 kilometers from the Gaza coast.
Footage recorded by the Freedom Flotilla’s surveillance cameras showed Israeli forces boarding several ships and detaining those on board.
Reuters news agency reported, citing the Freedom Flotilla management, that the Israeli army had attempted to jam signals and raided at least two of the ships.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced that all ships and passengers of the Freedom Flotilla were safe and had been transferred to a port in Israel. According to the ministry, the passengers on these ships would be deported soon.
The Israeli Foreign Ministry described the Freedom Flotilla as “another futile attempt to break the naval blockade and enter a war-torn region.”
The flotilla, which consists of 11 ships, set sail from Italy on September 25.
Hours before the attack, Israel’s Channel 13 reported that the regime’s military was preparing to intercept another flotilla that set sail from Italy and was expected to arrive off the coast of Gaza tonight. Israeli security sources said the flotilla could be more complex to deal with.
According to Al Jazeera, the Freedom Flotilla set sail from the Italian island of Sicily and continued its journey toward Gaza despite threats and protests. One of the ships in the flotilla, the Al-Dhamir, is carrying dozens of journalists and medical workers from 25 different countries. They plan to join their colleagues on the Freedom Flotilla and participate in the effort to break the Israeli blockade.
The same ship was attacked by Israel off the coast of Malta in May.
Also, on Wednesday, the Israeli navy raided the 42-ship “Global Solidarity Fleet” and arrested hundreds of international activists. They were taken to the Katsiyot prison in southern Israel, and it was announced that their deportation process had begun.
The movement of the Freedom Flotilla, and before that the Global Solidarity Fleet, to Gaza is the latest attempt by activists to break the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza, a region that has been under relentless Israeli military attacks and has so far claimed more than 67,000 lives and injured tens of thousands more.
