Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Kabul: The organization has warned that affected families are now at risk of death from severe cold.
Ibrahim Ahmad Al-Hammadi, head of the Islamic Relief Organization in Afghanistan, said: “With winter approaching, if proper shelter is not provided soon, survivors will be at severe risk of frostbite and disease.”
He criticized the international community’s lack of attention to the situation of earthquake victims a few days after the incident, adding that almost all affected families have lost all their belongings.
Al-Hammadi also said: “About 95 percent of these families have also lost their food supplies. Their situation is getting worse day by day and many are still living in temporary shelters such as tents and plastic.”
Islamic Relief said that immediately after the earthquake, it sent more than 200 tents, 950 health kits and sanitation services to the affected areas; but the survivors are in urgent need of permanent shelter.
Meanwhile, the UN’s Humanitarian Response and Needs Plan for Afghanistan 2025 has so far received less than 30 percent of its required funding. The organization has appealed for an additional $139 million to support earthquake survivors.
