Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Kabul: A press conference with the presence of media, political experts and Islamic Emirate officials was held today (Wednesday, October 8) by the Deputy Office of Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture regarding the decrees of Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada, the Leader of the Islamic Emirate, regarding the prevention of human trafficking and undesirable customs in Kabul.
Maulvi Abdul Haq Hammad, Advisor to the Deputy Office of Publications of the Ministry of Information and Culture, said in this program that today about forty million people live in Afghanistan and informing this large population is a religious duty for every individual, institution and media. He also added that every decree issued by the Leadership of the Islamic Emirate must be correctly and widely heard by all citizens.
Hammad explained about the decision-making process in the Islamic Emirate that before issuing each decree, a group of scholars and muftis examine the issue from all aspects and after consultation, present their proposal to the Leadership of the Emirate. He said: “When a decree is prepared in the form of a draft, it is reviewed for months and after final approval, it is issued by the Leader of the Islamic Emirate as an official decree and there is no doubt about its implementation.”
Referring to some incorrect customs in society, the advisor to the Ministry’s Deputy Publications Office added that with the emergence of the religion of Islam, many pre-Islamic customs and traditions were eliminated.
Hammad said: “Some customs that are against the Sharia still persist in Afghanistan; including cooking food by the family of the deceased, holding endowments, and holding funeral ceremonies at heavy costs, as well as taking dowries in marriage, all of which are against the Sharia.”
He further emphasized that based on the decree of the Leader of the Islamic Emirate, such un-Islamic customs have been declared illegal and the implementation of Sharia decrees is mandatory for all citizens.
The Deputy Advisor to the Ministry of Information and Culture’s Publications Department called on the media to work hard to provide accurate and enlightening information about the decrees of the Islamic Emirate and to take an enlightened stance against any un-Islamic decree or custom.
Mohammad Zalmai Afghanyar Popal, a political affairs expert, stated in a speech that all the people and scholars of the country should work to combat un-Islamic and wrong customs and traditions based on the decrees issued to eradicate these undesirable traditions from society.
He added that if there is a coherent and unified government in the country, laws and decrees will be implemented completely and fairly, but in conditions where “islands of power” are formed, law enforcement will face difficulties.
Afghanyar Popal emphasized that society should turn weaknesses into strengths by cooperating and helping each other and take steps towards the country’s growth and development. According to him, highlighting positive aspects and shared values can pave the way for national progress.
The political expert said that decrees issued based on the people's will play an effective role in improving the situation of families and saving girls from oppression and leading the country towards enlightenment and the spread of good traditions.
Meanwhile, Hojatullah Mujadedi, head of the Afghan Free Journalists' Union, said that the media and journalists reflect the suffering and problems of the people and can play a valuable role in improving the situation of society by implementing awareness programs about trafficking casualties, social harms, and improper customs and traditions in marriages.
Expressing concern about the decline of investigative reports in Afghanistan, he emphasized that it is necessary to revive such reports so that the harms of trafficking and inappropriate customs and traditions are conveyed to the society in a documented and informative manner.
Mojaddidi added that the media can clarify the positive and negative aspects of any social phenomenon for the people by implementing targeted programs and thus contribute to public awareness.
University professor Fahim Chakri, referring to the importance of marriage in the religion of Islam, said: “Marriage has an important and valuable place in Islam, but unfortunately, in some regions and provinces of the country, there are undesirable customs and traditions that have created serious problems in this regard.”
He added that in “mourning ceremonies and in some religious centers and circles, non-Islamic customs and traditions are observed that are contrary to Islamic teachings.” According to him, the decree of the leadership of the Islamic Emirate was issued in order to reduce these undesirable customs and seeks to eliminate them.
Referring to the country's potential for growth and progress, Chakri said that today there is room for growth and progress in the country, and if these opportunities are used properly, employment opportunities will be provided for the youth and the smuggling of youth to other countries will be prevented.
It is worth mentioning that in these decrees issued by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, taking dowries, spending excessively on weddings and funerals, giving away girls badly, and preparing food by the family of the deceased have been declared impermissible.
