Turghandi-Herat and Herat-Spin Boldak railway projects; Afghanistan
The Turghandi-Herat and Herat-Spin Boldak railway projects are among the most reliable railway lines in Afghanistan, which extend from Herat to Turghandi and from Kandahar to Spin Boldak, eventually connecting Afghanistan to Pakistan and from there to other countries in the region and the world. The action plan for the Herat-Spin Boldak railway project was signed between Kazakh and Afghan officials on Thursday. It was agreed to form a joint technical and financial committee on the start of practical work of the Turghandi-Herat and Herat-Spin Boldak railway projects and its legal and financial conditions. In the near future, a technical delegation from Kazakhstan will travel to Afghanistan.
 
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, told AFP that the Herat-Turghandi railway project was important for the development of Afghanistan's trade.
 
"The length of the line is 150 kilometers from Herat to Turghandi, 735 kilometers from Herat to Kandahar and 96 kilometers from Kandahar to Spin Boldak," Haqshenas said.
 
Asked whether the total cost of the project, as well as the time of its operation, had been determined yet, he said: “The project is under planning and has not been designed yet; Therefore, the price and time of operation will not be determined until the design is completed.”
 
"After the negotiation phase and completion of the design, budgeting and practical work of the project will begin as soon as possible," he also reminded.
 
Meanwhile, the press office of the Ministry of Public Works announced today that the technical and railway deputies of the Ministry of Public Works met with the deputies of the Ministries of Transport, Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan.
 
According to the statement, Maulvi Abdul Karim Fateh, Technical Deputy Minister, and Maulvi Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, Deputy Minister of Railways of the Ministry of Public Works, together with technical teams met with Kazakh officials on the Herat-Turghandi railway.
 
During the meeting between the Ministry of Public Works and the Kazakh side, a meeting and an action plan were signed and it was agreed to form a joint technical and financial committee on the start of practical work on the Turghandi-Herat and Herat-Spin Boldak railway projects and its legal and financial conditions. In the near future, a technical delegation from Kazakhstan will travel to Afghanistan.
 
The statement concluded: During the meeting, the Ministry of Public Works assured Kazakhstan that Afghanistan is fully prepared for the practical start of the project and that the project should be implemented in accordance with the applicable laws of the country.
