UNICEF: Earthquake-affected families in Kunar, Nangarhar and Laghman provinces are living among the ruins
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) says that a month after deadly earthquakes struck eastern Afghanistan, families in Kunar, Nangarhar and Laghman provinces are still living among the ruins and their immediate needs have not been met.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: UNICEF has issued a report saying that a budget shortfall of more than $11 million increases the risk of families being deprived of winter clothing, heating, safe water and special services for children at the peak of their needs.

The agency announced that UNICEF's dual water and sanitation strategy includes immediate assistance, such as the daily transfer of 180,000 liters of safe water, and the long-term rehabilitation of damaged water systems in villages.

Nutritional screenings also show alarming levels of malnutrition in the camps, highlighting the need for continued support, with acute malnutrition rates rising among children under five.

UNICEF has warned that the emergency situation is still ongoing, with families living in tents facing winter cold and the risk of flooding.

The agency said that hunger, disease and frostbite risk becoming as deadly as earthquakes due to the lack of basic facilities.
