In this meeting, he referred to his close ties with the US President and added: "Not long ago, the economic and trade delegations of the two countries held a new round of consultations in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and reached a basic agreement on resolving the main issues of concern to both sides, which has created the necessary conditions for holding this meeting."
The Chinese President also pointed out that since Trump's re-election, they have had three telephone conversations and exchanged several letters, adding: "We have been in close contact with each other during this period, and for this reason, relations between Beijing and Washington have remained stable overall."
He continued by stating that despite the differences in the countries' conditions, the emergence of tension between the world's two largest economies is a natural thing, and said: "You and I, who are the helmsmen of China-US relations, must maintain the right course against the winds, waves, and challenges and ensure the stable movement of the great ship of China-US relations."
Xi Jinping also stressed that he has always believed that China's development is in line with Trump's vision of making America great again, saying: "History has taught us that China must be a partner and friend of the United States, because our countries are fully capable of helping each other succeed and prosper together."

He also pointed to Trump's role in signing the joint declaration on peace on the Cambodian-Thailand border, stressing: "China has also helped Cambodia and Thailand in its own way to properly resolve their border disputes, and we have also made efforts to advance peace talks to resolve other regional issues."
Xi Jinping continued by stating that the world is facing many difficult issues today, and noted: As two major countries, China and the United States can shoulder their common responsibilities and make more great and tangible achievements for the interests of the two countries and the whole world, so I am eager to exchange views on important issues for the two countries and the world.
