Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to Shahab News Agency, Adnan Abu Hasna, media advisor of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), announced that the amount of aid currently entering the Gaza Strip is "more than before," but this amount is "like a drop in the ocean compared to the enormous needs" that the Gaza Strip is facing after months of war.
He added that Gaza used to receive between 70 and 80 GEL daily before the recent escalation of attacks, while now hundreds of GELs are arriving. Gaza actually needs “tens of thousands of lars on a continuous basis,” and the occupiers can allow in up to 1,000 lars per day through five land crossings if they wish.
Abu Hasna stressed that the crisis is not limited to food supplies, but also includes, in addition to essential medicines and therapeutic foods needed to save lives, spare parts for the sewage and water systems and the largely collapsed health sector.
Abu Hasna revealed that more than 90 percent of the population of the Gaza Strip suffers from varying degrees of malnutrition, while “tens of thousands of children suffer from severe levels” of this growing threat. The humanitarian situation remains very dire and it is too early to talk about any improvement.
Abu Hasna reported on the efforts of the UN Relief and Works Agency to resume the educational process, adding that there are 300,000 students in the agency’s schools, of which only 20,000 have returned to face-to-face education so far.
He stressed that the agency has opened three new clinics in Gaza City, in addition to dozens of clinics and mobile centers operating in Khan Yunis, Deir al-Balah, Nussirat and al-Bureij. Health, water distribution and shelter management teams, which house approximately 70,000 displaced people, continue to operate.
Abu Hasna concluded by calling on the international community to take swift and effective measures to allow all essential supplies to enter the Gaza Strip and to exert all-out pressure on the Zionist regime.
He stressed that the Zionist regime is preventing the entry of 6,000 trucks carrying enough aid for three months, including food, tents and shelter for 1.3 million Palestinians.
