Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs stated during a press conference that the cooperation between the two countries in the field of water resources management has a long history and any joint investment can help in sustainable development and reduce dependence on electricity imports.
Randhir Jaiswal, referring to the Salma Dam project, said: "This dam is a clear example of cooperation between India and the country and is known as the 'India-Afghanistan Friendship Dam.'"
According to economic experts, investment in the water resources management sector not only increases the capacity for power generation, but also provides employment and economic development in different regions of the country. “Proper management of the country’s stagnant waters can be both a significant domestic achievement and provide sufficient resources for agriculture,” added Mohammad Shakir Yaqoubi, an economic expert.
India’s support comes at a time when hydropower and water resources management projects in the country are progressing slowly due to budget constraints and climate change, and the attention of the international community and foreign investors could accelerate the development of these projects.
According to the latest reports, India also plans to support hydropower projects in different regions of the country by providing modern equipment and technologies, and provide training and technical cooperation for local experts to improve the capacity of water resources management within the country.
According to experts, India’s investment in the water and energy sectors can play an important role in improving energy security and sustainable development of the country. Observers say that in addition to increasing electricity production, these cooperation can help create jobs and local economic growth and reduce dependence on energy imports. Also, India's support for hydroelectric projects could help stabilize economic and political relations between the two countries.
