Majority of Palestinians oppose disarming resistance and do not believe in the establishment of an independent state in Trump’s peace plan
The results of a new poll show that the majority of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank oppose Donald Trump’s peace plan and do not accept the disarmament of resistance groups even in exchange for an end to the war. Most Palestinians also consider it impossible to fulfill the promise of establishing an independent state within the framework of this plan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – International Service: According to Shahab News Agency, the Palestinian Center for Policy and Polling Research (PCPSR) has published the results of its latest poll on Trump’s peace plan. According to the center’s findings, 69 percent of Palestinians participating in the poll, who live in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, oppose the disarmament of resistance groups, and 70 percent do not believe that Trump’s plan can lead to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state within the next five years.
 
The poll shows that reactions to Trump’s peace plan in the two regions of Gaza and the West Bank are different; Gazans have shown greater support for the peace plan, but overall, the majority of respondents strongly reject Hamas’s disarmament and are skeptical about ending the war or establishing a Palestinian state.
 
Population:
The survey surveyed 1,270 people, including 830 from the West Bank (in 83 residential areas) and 440 from the Gaza Strip (in 44 areas), with a margin of error of 3.5%. The survey was conducted in person, virtually, and by telephone between October 22 and 25, 2025 (October 20 and November 3).
 
Palestinian Leadership:
The results show that the leadership crisis among Palestinians continues. Dissatisfaction with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has increased, and Marwan Barghouti has emerged as the leading figure among the leadership options. According to the survey results, Hamas is overtaking Fatah; While Gazans are more inclined to negotiate and negotiate, people in the West Bank are more likely to support armed struggle.
 
Support for Trump’s plan:
When asked about their level of support for Trump’s plan, 47 percent of respondents supported it and 49 percent opposed it. This was 59 percent in the Gaza Strip and 39 percent in the West Bank. Those who were aware of the plan’s provisions also showed greater support (50 percent versus 39 percent).
 
Disarming the resistance:
 
69 percent of respondents, especially in the West Bank, oppose disarming Hamas in the Gaza Strip even if it is a condition for preventing war. Opposition in the West Bank is particularly high, with 78 percent calling for the resistance to keep its weapons.
 
Independent Palestinian State:
70% of Palestinians believe that Trump’s plan will not lead to the establishment of an independent state in the West Bank and Gaza within the next five years. Only 21% in the West Bank and 34% in Gaza believe that this goal will be achieved. However, 59% of all respondents expressed hope that reforms in the PA will be possible to realize the Palestinian national aspirations.
 
Normalization of Arab-Israeli relations:
When asked about the possibility that Trump’s plan will lead to the normalization of relations between Arab and Islamic countries and the Israeli regime within the next one or two years even without the establishment of a Palestinian state 49% considered such a possibility real and 48% rejected it. This figure was 53% in the West Bank and 42% in the Gaza Strip.
