Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Herat: Mohammad Nasser Amin, head of the Herat Chamber of Industries and Mines, said in an interview with AVA that in recent years the quality and packaging of domestic products have improved, and more than 350 types of export goods are currently being produced in factories in the province.
According to him, 1,170 companies are active in the Herat Industrial Park and about 150,000 workers are busy working in this sector.
Amin added that with the start of the fourth and fifth phases of the industrial park, the capacity to attract 10,000 new workers will also be provided.
Meanwhile, Mufti Mohammad Yousuf Saeedi, a local official in Herat, says that so far more than 13,000 returnees have been employed in factories and various parts of the industrial park, and the private sector has played an important role in this process.
He emphasized that the government has taken steps to further support investors by facilitating the process of issuing licenses and providing legal support for economic activities.
On the other hand, Maulvi Mohammad Bashir Sirat, head of the Herat Department of Industry and Commerce, says that the private sector in the province is growing steadily, and dozens of industrial and commercial licenses are issued daily.
According to him, the security of investors has been ensured and the distribution of new land for the expansion of the industrial park will begin in the near future.
As one of the largest manufacturing centers in the country, the Herat Industrial Park currently plays an important role in job creation, economic growth, and exports in the west of the country.
Last year, a significant portion of Herat's products were exported to Iran, Turkmenistan, and Pakistan.
Products from the industrial park include food, construction materials, plastics, pharmaceuticals, and textile products.
Some factories have reported that their production capacity has increased two to four times compared to three years ago.
Economic observers believe that the relative stability of security and a focus on supporting investors are key factors in the industrial boom in Herat.
However, studies show that challenges such as energy shortages, export restrictions, and weak transportation infrastructure could still affect this growth.
If development programs in the energy and transportation sectors are strengthened, Herat has the potential to become an industrial hub in the region.
