Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The official statement of the ministry, published on Saturday evening, said: "Ukrainian soldiers surrounded in Pokrovsk are surrendering." According to the TASS news agency, the Russian "Center" group of forces has killed more than 405 Ukrainian military personnel in the past 24 hours, as well as destroying two armored vehicles, seven vehicles and three artillery pieces.
This report was published while the Ukrainian army also described the situation in Pokrovsk as "complicated" but claimed that it has reinforced its forces in the area.
Intense clashes continue in the Donetsk axis and around the city of Pokrovsk. Russian sources and some Western media outlets have previously reported that Russian forces are advancing towards the northwestern outskirts of the city. The Ukrainian military has said that it has managed to take control of an area of about 70 square miles in the past two weeks, after launching several counterattacks.
Pokrovsk is a vital logistics hub in Donetsk Oblast. It is located at the intersection of several major railway and road routes, which play a key role in supplying Ukraine’s military to cities such as Kramatorsk, Slavyansk and Kurakhov. It is also home to Ukraine’s only active coking coal mine, which is vital to the country’s steel industry.
