Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The city, which is the capital of North Darfur state, fell to the Rapid Support Forces last Sunday after an 18-month siege. Since then, there have been many reports of mass executions, sexual violence, attacks on aid workers, looting and kidnapping.
Those who managed to escape said they witnessed children being shot, people beaten and property stolen as they fled. According to the United Nations, more than 65,000 people have fled the city, but tens of thousands are still trapped in El Fasher.
Doctors Without Borders has warned that the rapid response forces are preventing people from leaving for safer areas. Only about 5,000 people have been able to reach the town of Tawila, 70km west of El Fasher.
The Darfur regional government has also said the situation in El Fasher is catastrophic and that mass executions are continuing. Reports indicate that people are being forced to survive on animal feed as food and medicine routes have been blocked by the invading forces.
The rapid response forces are also said to have received weapons and drones from the United Arab Emirates, although the UAE has denied this.
