Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Ulyanov, who was speaking to the RIA Novosti news agency today (Sunday), stated: “There are no restrictions in this regard, provided that nuclear activities are carried out only for peaceful purposes and are under the effective supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.”
In response to a question about whether Iran can take further steps towards developing its nuclear program, he clarified that this issue “will be determined by the Iranian authorities” and it is not yet clear whether Iran intends to take new steps in this regard.
Ulyanov also added: “The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) does not impose any strict restrictions or prohibitions on the nuclear programs of member states, provided that these activities are exclusively for peaceful purposes and under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.”
The remarks came after UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which endorsed the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran and established mechanisms to monitor its implementation, expired in October. This will directly affect the atmosphere for nuclear negotiations and the future of international agreements with Iran.
