Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): The Israeli regime's Channel 13 television reported that the Security Committee in the regime's parliament has approved the bill to execute Palestinian prisoners despite previous opposition, so that it can be sent to the Knesset for its first vote.
The bill, submitted by Itamar Ben-Giver, the Israeli Minister of Internal Security, would allow courts to issue death sentences to Palestinians if it becomes law.
In order to become law, the bill must pass three successful voting stages in the Knesset (known as the first, second, and third readings).
Given reports that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has backed down from his opposition, the process of passing the law is expected to be pursued more seriously, although opponents and Knesset legal advisors have warned of the security and legal consequences of this move. Gal Hirsch, the coordinator of Israel's prisoner affairs, said at a meeting of the Security Committee about the bill: "I previously opposed this law on behalf of the former prime minister, when the prisoners were still alive in the Gaza Strip, but today, with their return, Netanyahu sees no obstacle to passing this law."
