Following the severe earthquake in the northern provinces of Afghanistan that resulted in the loss of life and injury to hundreds of citizens and extensive financial and cultural losses, Dr. Seyed Ruhollah Hosseini, the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Afghanistan, issued a message expressing sympathy with the people of Afghanistan and offering condolences over the incident. He also announced Iran’s readiness to reconstruct the damaged parts of the shrine attributed to Imam Ali (AS) in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The message from the Cultural Attaché of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kabul states: “With utmost regret and sorrow, the occurrence of a severe earthquake in some northern provinces of Afghanistan, which resulted in the loss of life of a number of oppressed and honorable compatriots of this land and extensive financial and spiritual losses, has caused deep sorrow. I offer my condolences to the bereaved families, the honorable people of Afghanistan, and the honorable government of this country for this painful tragedy. I pray to God Almighty for mercy and forgiveness for the deceased, and for a speedy recovery for the injured.”

The Iranian Cultural Counselor also pointed out the damage done to the shrine attributed to Imam Ali (AS) (Sakhi) in the city of Mazar-e-Sharif and emphasized that this holy place, in addition to its spiritual and cultural status among the Afghan people, is a symbol of the deep historical, religious, and identity ties between the two Muslim and brotherly nations of Iran and Afghanistan.

In the final part of this message, Dr. Hosseini announced: “The Islamic Republic of Iran is fully prepared to take action to repair and reconstruct the damaged parts of this holy shrine within the framework of coordination with the competent authorities of Afghanistan, while observing technical principles and preserving the sanctity of the holy place.”

It is worth noting that last night's earthquake in Balkh and Samangan provinces, in addition to human casualties, also damaged a number of historical and religious monuments.
