Israeli military prosecutor arrested on charges of publishing footage of torture of Palestinian prisoners
Former Israeli military prosecutor Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi was arrested after revealing a video of a Palestinian prisoner being tortured. He is accused of revealing confidential information and abuse of office and will remain in custody until Wednesday of this week.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Following the publication of a shocking video of the torture of a Palestinian prisoner at the Sadi Timan military detention center in southern occupied Palestine, Israeli authorities arrested former military prosecutor Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi. The video, which dates back to August 2024, was broadcast by Israeli TV Channel 12 and sparked widespread reactions within the regime.

In the released footage, several Israeli soldiers separate a Palestinian prisoner from other prisoners, handcuffed and blindfolded, and take him to a corner of the hall. They then use a shield to hide the scene from the cameras. Reports indicate that the prisoner was taken to the hospital with severe injuries, including internal bleeding, a ruptured intestine, lung damage, and broken ribs, after being tortured.

In his resignation statement, Yerushalmi acknowledged that his legal department had released the video to the media last year. The Israeli military also announced that he had been removed from his post as part of an official investigation.

After the video was released, right-wing Israeli groups and some members of the Knesset (parliament) strongly protested the leak of this information. Israel's Minister of Internal Security, Itamar Ben-Ghafir, also announced in a telegram message that "special measures" had been taken in the detention center to protect the defendant's safety.

According to the Kan network, Yerushalmi faces charges including fraud, breach of trust, abuse of office, obstruction of justice, and disclosure of confidential information. A Tel Aviv court has ordered him to remain in custody until Wednesday.

The case is one of the most controversial recent scandals in the Israeli military, once again drawing public attention to the regime's violent treatment of Palestinian prisoners.
