Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics Meets with UNODC Delegation
The Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, in a meeting with the Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), emphasized joint cooperation in the field of treating addicts and creating alternative livelihoods instead of poppy cultivation, and asked the office to increase its assistance in these areas.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: The press office of the Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics announced that Sheikh Mohammad Qasim Khalid, Deputy Minister for Counter-Narcotics of the Ministry of Interior Affairs, met with Poliak Divan, Director of the UNODC Office, in his office.

According to the press release, Khalid considered the fight against drugs and treating addicts as important priorities of the Islamic Emirate, adding that despite limited resources, the Islamic Emirate has been able to prevent drugs to a large extent and has made significant achievements in this regard.

He asked the representatives of the UNODC Office to cooperate more in the field of treating addicts and providing them with alternative livelihoods. Khalid said that in order to create an alternative livelihood instead of poppy cultivation, they plan to establish fruit gardens and grain cultivation in the large plains of the country, and this program can be more effective with the help of the United Nations.

On the other hand, representatives of the UNODC office, while praising the commitment and achievements of the Islamic Emirate in the field of combating drugs, have announced their readiness for any cooperation in the areas of treating addicts and creating an alternative livelihood instead of poppy cultivation.
