Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The New York Times reported yesterday evening (Tuesday, November 4) that US President Donald Trump’s advisers have presented a plan to kidnap or assassinate Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
The New York Times reported, citing sources who asked not to be named, that the options regarding Venezuela include airstrikes on military installations to undermine Maduro’s power.
The report continued: “Other options include sending special forces to capture or kill Maduro, as well as sending counterterrorism forces to seize Venezuelan airports and oil fields.”
“Trump aides are seeking legal justification for targeting Maduro without congressional authorization,” the US officials told the newspaper. “But Trump has expressed hesitation about any operation against Maduro, fearing it could backfire.”
The New York Times noted that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is calling for more aggressive options in Venezuela, adding: “Rubio, in private conversations, has called for the Venezuelan president to step down.”
The report also added: “The Trump administration may designate the Venezuelan president as a member of a terrorist organization, making him a legitimate target.”
