Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): Mamdani, a Democratic politician and one of the immigrant and progressive figures of New York, stated at the beginning of his speech, referring to Trump’s political roots in this city: “Donald Trump, I know you’re watching and I have four words for you: Turn up the volume!”
He added: “The same city (New York) that expelled you from its heart will now show the entire country how to defeat you. To reach any of us, you have to go through all of us.”
In another part of his speech, the new mayor of New York criticized what he called a "culture of corruption and economic discrimination," saying, "We will hold abusive landlords accountable because the Trumps of this city have exploited their tenants for years."
We will end a culture of corruption and tax evasion that has allowed billionaires like Trump to avoid paying taxes and benefit from unfair deductions.
The future is in our hands
He emphasized support for the working class, saying, "We stand with labor unions and defend workers' rights because we know, as Trump himself knows, that when workers have strong and guaranteed rights, managers who want to exploit them become very small."
Mamdani went on to point to his background in hard jobs, citing the working class and immigrants as the main pillars of this victory, saying, “My fingers are bruised from lifting boxes in the warehouse, my knuckles still have the scars of kitchen burns. These are not hands that are allowed to hold power, but for the past 12 months we have fought for something greater, and tonight, against all odds, we have won it. The future is in our hands, my friends. We have overthrown a political dynasty.”
According to American media reports, Mamdani’s words, which were accompanied by continuous applause from the audience, were described as symbolic of the rise of a new generation of politicians in New York; a generation raised among workers and immigrants, who say it is time to change the power structure in the city that once gave birth to Donald Trump.
New York will be a city of immigrants
The Muslim mayor of New York emphasized the rights of immigrants in New York City and said, "New York will always be a city for immigrants; a city that immigrants built, is alive with their strength, and today, an immigrant leads it."
I am a Muslim and I will not apologize for that
The mayor of New York clarified: We will fight anti-Semitism and Islamophobia in New York City. I am a Muslim, a socialist, and a democrat, and I will not apologize for any of this.
He emphasized, "New York will no longer be a city where you can campaign with Islamophobia and win elections."
You can no longer win elections with Islamophobia
In part of his speech, Mamdani emphasized, "We will build a city that stands firmly with the Jews living in New York and does not hesitate to fight the scourge of anti-Semitism. Where more than a million Muslims know they belong in this city, not just in its five boroughs, but in the heart of power and decision-making institutions. New York will no longer be a city where you can preach Islamophobia and win elections.
