NATO Secretary General: West must prepare for long-term confrontation with Russia and its allies
Mark Rutte, Secretary General of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), warned in a speech on Thursday that member states of the alliance must prepare themselves for a long-term confrontation with Russia and its allies, including China, Iran and North Korea. He called on NATO members to strengthen their defense capabilities by increasing military production.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Rutte, referring to what he called “coordinated efforts to undermine the global order,” said: “Russia is not alone in this path. As you know, it is cooperating with China, North Korea, Iran and others. They are increasing their defense industrial cooperation to unprecedented levels and are preparing for a long-term confrontation.”

These statements come as tensions between NATO and Russia have increased sharply, especially after the outbreak of the Ukraine war in 2022. NATO has repeatedly accused Russia of threatening European security, while Moscow has accused NATO of provoking and expanding influence on its eastern borders.

In response to these statements, Russian officials have once again denied any aggressive intentions towards NATO. The Kremlin has stated that these claims are being made by Western politicians to scare public opinion and justify an unprecedented increase in military budgets. Russia has also emphasized that NATO’s intervention in the Ukraine crisis has been one of the main factors escalating the conflicts in the region.

These developments come as international analysts warn of the formation of a new geopolitical alignment between the Western bloc and informal alliances between Russia, China, Iran and North Korea; an alignment that could transform the world’s security structure in the coming decades.
