Sudan
In a significant development in the Sudanese crisis, the Rapid Reaction Forces militia announced on Thursday that it had agreed to a humanitarian ceasefire proposal and was ready to begin talks on a complete cessation of hostilities.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The statement came as the Sudanese army has yet to officially respond to the proposal. Sudan's military-led Security and Defense Council met earlier this week, but some influential commanders have expressed their opposition to the ceasefire plan.

The Rapid Reaction Forces statement said: "We look forward to implementing the agreement and immediately starting talks on arrangements for stopping the fighting and the basic principles of the political process in Sudan."

The proposed agreement was proposed by the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt in September and aims to establish a three-month humanitarian ceasefire that will eventually lead to a permanent ceasefire.

The conflict between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Reaction Forces began in April 2023, when a dispute over a military integration plan between the two sides escalated into civil war. The conflict has so far killed tens of thousands of people, spread famine across the country, and displaced millions.

Just two weeks ago, the Rapid Reaction Forces captured the famine-stricken city of Al-Fasher, raising concerns about a worsening humanitarian crisis in western Sudan.

If the Sudanese army agrees to the plan, it could pave the way for political talks to end one of Africa’s most complex and bloody conflicts.
