Afghanistan and Uzbekistan sign memorandum of understanding to establish air and land corridors for agricultural product exports
The Balkh local administration has announced that, at the initiative of this administration and in coordination with the Uzbek authorities, a memorandum of understanding and cooperation agreement have been signed to establish an air and land corridor between the two countries.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Mazar-e-Sharif: Based on the provisions of this agreement, Afghan fruits and agricultural products, including pomegranates, figs, vegetables and other seasonal products, will be exported through Uzbek air and land routes to countries in Central Asia, South Asia, Europe, as well as domestic markets in Uzbekistan.
 
The signing ceremony of this agreement was attended by local officials of Balkh, representatives of Afghan traders and Uzbek officials.
 
The Balkh local administration said in a statement that after the signing of this memorandum, operational contracts between a number of traders from the two countries have also been finalized and the groundwork for the start of exports has been prepared.
 
According to the department, agreements have also been reached with a number of Afghan traders to export meat to Uzbekistan, and the practical process of transporting these products has begun.
 
Balkh officials have stated that the purpose of signing this memorandum is to expand trade and economic cooperation between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, facilitate the export of agricultural products, and create reliable and effective routes for Afghan traders.
 
They emphasize that this measure can open new transit routes for Afghan export goods and make Uzbekistan one of the strategic options for transporting the country's products to international markets.
