Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: Hamas spokesman announced that the movement opposes the draft resolution prepared by the US for the Security Council vote on the Gaza Strip, because this document will not contribute "in any way" to improving the humanitarian and security conditions in Gaza.
Hazem Qassem said in an interview with Al Jazeera, "None of the amendments and main provisions of the US-proposed resolution have been prepared with the aim of stabilizing the situation in Gaza."
He emphasized that a suitable alternative to the US draft should be a resolution that strengthens the ceasefire and paves the way for the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Gaza.
Hamas has also called for a Security Council resolution to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza, the West Bank and Jerusalem and guarantee the right to self-determination for the Palestinian people.
The Security Council is scheduled to vote on Monday, November 17, on the US draft to support the "Donald Trump peace plan for Gaza." According to the US mission to the UN, the draft includes clauses on:
* the deployment of international stabilization forces in Gaza,
* the creation of a "stable, secure, peaceful and prosperous" future for the Palestinians without the presence of Hamas.
Russia proposes alternative resolution
The Russian mission to the UN also announced on Friday that Moscow has prepared an alternative draft resolution in response to the US text.
The document calls on the UN Secretary-General to prepare a report on implementation options for the provisions of the Trump plan and submit it to the Security Council.
The Russian delegation emphasizes that any Security Council resolution must be based on the accepted international legal framework and reaffirm fundamental principles, including the two-state solution.
