Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Iraqi Federal Supreme Court has issued a binding ruling: With the holding of new parliamentary elections, the full authority of the House of Representatives (Parliament) will officially end and from that day on, the government (the cabinet led by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani) will be limited solely to (caretaker government).
According to the ruling, which the official Iraqi news agency published today, the government is not allowed to carry out the following actions until the new parliament is formed and a vote of confidence is held in the new cabinet: Signing international treaties. Concluding major economic and political agreements. Proposing new legislative bills. Appointing or dismissing high-ranking officials. Taking foreign loans or restructuring the structure of ministries.
Meanwhile, the court emphasized that the Iraqi president, in accordance with Article 72 of the constitution, will continue to fully exercise his duties until the first session of the new parliament is held and the speaker and presiding officers are elected.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi parliamentary elections were held successfully a few days ago, and the Shiite Coordination Framework won the majority of seats.
Meanwhile, Mohammed al-Sayhoud, a member of the Coordination Framework of Shiite Groups, which won the largest number of seats in the recent sixth Iraqi parliamentary elections, emphasized that the decision to choose the next prime minister rests exclusively with the leaders of the Coordination Framework and that everyone will respect it.
Al-Sayhoud said that the Coordination Framework will hold a meeting tonight with the presence of all its factions to announce the largest faction that will win the election.
He added that with this announcement, the president, according to the constitution, will task the largest faction with introducing a candidate for prime minister of the future government.
The Coordination Framework member continued that the name of the prime minister will be finalized within the Coordination Framework based on a mechanism agreed upon by its leaders.
It is noted that sources within the Coordination Framework said that the leaders of the Framework will hold a meeting tonight to review the indicators and criteria for selecting a prime minister candidate.
