UNAMA expresses concern over closure of border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan
The Head and Deputy Political Officer of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), in a meeting with Foreign Minister Amir Khan Mottaqi, expressed concern over the closure of border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Georgette Gagnon said in the meeting that thousands of tons of UNAMA humanitarian aid, including food and supplies, are stuck on the other side of the border.

Pakistan has been closing border crossings with Afghanistan for more than a month due to conflict and tension with the Islamic Emirate and is only allowing deported refugees to pass.

The Foreign Ministry wrote that Ms. Gagnon also expressed regret over the martyrdom of women, children, and civilians in Pakistani attacks in Khost and Kunar, and said that international laws must be observed to prevent casualties and harm to civilians.

The UNAMA Acting Head and the Foreign Minister also discussed the Doha Process working groups on counter-narcotics and supporting the private sector.

Amir Khan Mottaqi said that the Islamic Emirate has reduced drug cultivation to “almost zero” and has taken the necessary measures to support the private sector.

He added that now is the time for the relevant parties to take more concrete steps to make progress.

According to the Foreign Ministry’s statement, the UNAMA Acting Head positively assessed the activities of the Doha Process working groups on counter-narcotics and supporting the private sector and proposed joint work in other areas.

Based on the decisions taken at the Doha meetings on Afghanistan, the United Nations has established two working groups, "Supporting the Private Sector" and "Fighting Narcotics," with the participation of representatives of the Islamic Emirate. These working groups have held several meetings so far and have evaluated the implementation of bilateral commitments.
