Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) – Herat: In an exclusive interview with AVA, Hujjat-ul-Islam Wal-Muslimin Sayed Dawood Sajjadi said that Herat, with its brilliant historical record, especially during the Timurid era, has always been the center of the intersection of civilizations and the main axis of regional trade.
Referring to Herat’s strategic location adjacent to Iran and Turkmenistan and the decline in trade relations with Pakistan, he emphasized that this province has more opportunities than ever to become the country’s economic hub.
The Deputy of the Jibrael and Suburbs Shia Ulema Council, described major projects such as TAPI, Pashdan Dam, and Guzra International Terminal as serious signs of the government’s attention to Herat’s economic growth.
According to him, the developments of the last four years have made many Afghan businessmen living abroad now consider investing in Herat appropriate, and if domestic products of desired quality are introduced to global markets, everyone (businessmen, people, and the government) will benefit.
Hojjat-ul-Islam Sajjadi emphasized equipping customs, especially Islam Qala, with modern digital systems, accelerating goods clearance, removing unnecessary restrictions, and providing more facilities for businessmen.
After recent tensions with Pakistan, the Chabahar, Dogharun, and Milk routes have become the main alternative to Karachi ports, and hundreds of containers enter the country through Herat daily.
According to economic experts, Herat, with its existing infrastructure and proximity to Iran and Turkmenistan, has the real potential to become Afghanistan's commercial and industrial hub. Observers say that if customs barriers are removed and major projects such as TAPI and Guzra are completed on time, in less than five years Herat could completely replace Pakistani routes and multiply the country's foreign trade volume.
