Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to the website of the Russia Today network, Abdul Fattah Al-Burhan, the army commander and head of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, has called on US President Donald Trump to play a role in ending the civil war in Sudan.
In an article published in the Wall Street Journal, he wrote: The Sudanese people are now waiting for Washington to act to end this war based on the clear approach of the US President, along with those who are seriously seeking peace in the region.
Al-Burhan wrote in his note: Many Sudanese believe that Mr. Trump is a decisive leader who speaks clearly and acts seriously and is determined to confront external factors that have prolonged the suffering of the Sudanese people.
The war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has killed tens of thousands of people and led to one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises, famine and displacement.
Trump last week made his first public comments on the Sudanese war, promising to address the issue after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman called for his intervention.
The US, UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt are currently trying to broker a ceasefire between the warring parties. However, the Sudanese army and the RSF had previously blocked US-Saudi-led talks.
