Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): After Donald Trump announced the closure of Venezuelan airspace on Saturday, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry described the move as a "declaration of war." Now the Venezuelan Defense Minister has also spoken of defense at all costs.
Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino Lopez wrote on his Telegram channel: "This threat by the United States government is an illegal, arbitrary aggression that is contrary to international law and aims to violate the absolute sovereignty of our airspace."
He emphasized that no foreign power has the right to intervene, block, or condition Venezuela's sovereign decisions.
Vladimir Padrino Lopez then called on the international community to condemn this “hostile act that threatens the peace of the Caribbean and South America.”
The Venezuelan Defense Minister also wrote: “Venezuela will respond with dignity and honor, based on the law and relying on the strength and spirit of its people.”
Padrino Lopez emphasized that the Venezuelan people, based on a national spirit and morality, will never allow their honor to be tarnished. He emphasized: “We will defend our national sovereignty at all costs.”
This firm stance comes after Donald Trump declared Venezuelan airspace “totally closed” yesterday on the social network Truth Social, warning airlines, pilots and criminal networks to refrain from entering this space.
The Venezuelan Foreign Ministry also released a statement on Saturday evening, describing Donald Trump’s post as a “clear threat to use force” and a “gross violation of international law.”
These developments come as the US has stepped up its military pressure on Venezuela. The Trump administration recently designated Maduro and his inner circle as a “foreign terrorist organization,” a designation that US officials say would open Washington’s hands to direct operations inside Venezuela. Trump also confirmed that he had given the green light to CIA operations inside Venezuela in mid-October.
On Friday, Trump also openly spoke of the imminent start of a ground operation to “stop drug traffickers.” The US military has deployed more than 12 warships and 15,000 troops to the region as part of Operation Southern Spear, and has targeted dozens of people on Venezuelan boats in recent naval strikes.
In contrast, Caracas has reacted harshly to Washington’s decisions. Venezuela’s foreign minister called the US action a “colonial threat” and “illegal aggression.”
Maduro told his supporters in a televised address on Thursday night: "Stay calm but prepared. We are armed to defend our nation." He stressed on Monday: "America can never defeat Venezuela; we are invincible."
