North Korea's announcement on strengthening nuclear deterrence

The North Korean leader has announced that the country's air force has been equipped with new strategic assets to further strengthen Pyongyang's nuclear deterrence.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: According to the official North Korean news agency (KCNA), Kim Jong-un announced at a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Air Force at one of the country's eastern bases that the country's air force has been equipped with "new strategic assets" with the aim of strengthening nuclear deterrence.
 
While praising the pilots and operational forces of the country's air force, the North Korean official emphasized that the outcome of any air battle depends more on the "spirit and will of the pilots" than on equipment.
 
He described the air force as the "first military branch" which, according to him, has strong ideological and revolutionary support.
 
The increased US military presence in East Asia has added to tensions between countries in the region.
 
Despite Seoul's emphasis on peaceful coexistence with Pyongyang, North Korean officials view South Korea's military cooperation with the US as a threat to their existence.
