Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described Sunday’s talks between US and Ukrainian delegations in Florida as “constructive and productive,” but stressed that “much work remains to be done to reach a final outcome.”
According to Fox News, Rubio said: “We had a very productive and productive meeting (Sunday) and I think we made more progress. We remain realistic about how difficult this process is, but we remain optimistic given the progress we have made.”
The US State Department has announced that the US delegation in these talks includes Marco Rubio, Steve Witkoff (US special representative) and Jared Kushner, son-in-law of President Donald Trump.
In contrast, the Ukrainian delegation is made up of Rustam Umarov, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, and Sergey Kyslytsia, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump, who had promised to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours, has proposed a 28-point plan to end the war after a year of failure in this regard.
The 28-point draft peace agreement between the US and Russia presents controversial proposals, from the transfer of parts of Donbas to the limitation of the Ukrainian army and the ban on membership in NATO; a plan that Washington considers realistic but Kiev and Europe call it a “surrender.”
According to the initial plan, Ukraine would have to cede the Donbas region to Russia, limit its army to about 600,000 people, reduce the range of some long-range weapons, and, in addition, permanently withdraw from NATO.
After the initial presentation of the peace plan, senior Ukrainian and European officials opposed it. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believed that now, at a “historic moment for Ukraine,” it would have to choose between “national honor” and “American support.” However, the United States has put pressure on Ukraine, warning that it may reduce its military aid if it does not sign the agreement.
