Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): According to Deutsche Welle, tens of thousands of people in Madrid took to the streets to demand the resignation of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.
The protesters declared Sanchez's government corrupt and called for early elections.
The protests, under the title "Mafia or Democracy?", were organized by the People's Party, led by opposition leader Alberto Nunez Fejjo. "Enough!" and "Not another day!" were among the protesters' slogans.
The participants held Spanish flags and carried signs that read "Resign now!" and "Sanchez, go!"
The People's Party estimated the crowd at around 80,000, but the Spanish Interior Ministry put the actual number at closer to 40,000. The last large-scale protest against Sanchez was held in Madrid in June. Madrid Mayor José Luis Martínez-Almeida and former Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy also spoke at the rally.
The main reason for the protest was a decision by Spain's Supreme Court earlier this week to order the temporary detention of Sanchez's former transport minister José Luis Abalos and his former adviser, Koldo Garcia.
Sanchez, who has been in power since 2018, has said he will not resign before the end of his current parliamentary term in 2027, and has seen the right-wing's actions as an attempt to undermine him.
