Japan calls for resumption of talks between Iran and the US
In a phone call with his Iranian counterpart, the Japanese Foreign Minister stressed the need for a rapid resumption of talks between Iran and the US to resolve the nuclear issue.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - International Service: The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today's telephone conversation between Motegi Toshimitsu, the country's Foreign Minister, and his Iranian counterpart, Seyyed Abbas Araqchi.

According to Tokyo's account, in this call, Motegi emphasized the importance of a rapid resumption of talks between the US and Iran with the aim of resolving the Iranian nuclear issue through dialogue and called on Iran to immediately resume full cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, to which Araqchi explained Iran's position in response.

According to a statement from the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both ministers also emphasized the continuation of close relations between the two countries at various levels for the sake of peace and stability in the region.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in today’s call, Araghchi reviewed the latest developments related to Iran’s nuclear program and the actions and positions of the United States and three European countries, and stated, “It is America that must return to diplomacy by gaining Iran’s trust.”

In an interview yesterday, Araghchi referred to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s readiness to negotiate honorably and fairly to reach a fair and balanced solution from an equal position, and said, “This has always been our policy and continues to be the same. It is America that, with its excessive and coercive policies, has in fact destroyed the possibility of negotiation at the present time.”
