Federica Mogherini arrested in Belgium; EU fraud investigation
Former EU foreign policy chief and head of the College of Europe, Federica Mogherini, was arrested during a raid by Belgian police on the offices of the European Union and the College of Europe as part of a fraud investigation.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA)-International Service: Belgian media reported that police conducted extensive searches this morning at the offices of the European External Action Service in Brussels, the College of Europe in Bruges and several private homes.
 
Three people, including Federica Mogherini, were arrested in the operation. Mogherini was the EU’s foreign policy chief from 2014 to 2019 and is now the head of the College of Europe.
 
The second person arrested has been identified as Stefano Sannino, former Secretary-General of the European External Action Service and current Director-General of the European Commission for the Middle East, North Africa and the Persian Gulf.
 
The third person has been identified as a director of the College of Europe.
 
The Belgian newspaper Le Soir reported that the case was linked to the possible misuse of EU funds in educational and management projects.
 
A spokesperson for the College of Europe confirmed the police raid to Euronews but did not comment on Mogherini's arrest.
