Afghan Voice Agency (AVA) - Kabul: Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, said in an interview with AVA that currently most of the country's highways and communication routes are open to traffic and the flow of vehicles is flowing normally.
Latest status of the Salang Highway
Haqshenas added that it has started snowing on the Salang Highway since last night, but this highway is open to passenger vehicles and traffic is flowing normally and in both directions. Also, cargo vehicles, with the exception of trailers, are moving intermittently from the south to the north on this route.
Blocked routes in Bamyan and Ghazni
According to Haghshenas, in Bamyan province, the routes of Kotal Shato and Kotal Hajigak, and in Ghazni province, the route of Nahur district are closed to traffic due to snowfall and storms.
Haghshenas noted that efforts to facilitate the movement of trailer trucks on the Salang highway, as well as efforts to reopen closed routes in Bamyan and Ghazni provinces, are currently underway by provincial personnel of the Ministry of Public Works.
Advice to passengers and drivers
Mr. Haghshenas finally urged all passengers and drivers to exercise caution and, if traveling, have warm winter clothing and the necessary equipment and supplies for their vehicles.
Damages from recent rainfall in the country
In the recent snowfalls, huge financial and human losses were inflicted on the citizens of the country, and many communication routes and highways were also closed to traffic. Official sources reported 61 deaths, dozens of injuries, the loss of 600 livestock, and the destruction of hundreds of homes and residential buildings in the recent rains.
