Escalating diplomatic tension between South Africa and the Zionist regime; Expulsion of chargés-de-camp
Following the escalation of political and legal disputes between South Africa and the Zionist regime, the two sides have initiated mutual expulsions of their chargés-de-camp, and the diplomatic tension has entered a new phase.
Afghan Voice Agency (AVA): South Africa’s Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation announced that it has declared Ariel Seidman, the Israeli chargé d’affaires in Pretoria, an undesirable person and has given him 72 hours to leave the country. The ministry emphasized in a statement that the decision was taken in response to the repeated publication of insulting material by Israeli officials on social media against South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The statement stated that such behavior is a clear violation of accepted diplomatic principles and customs. South Africa also called the Israeli regime's "incomplete and deliberate" notification of the visit of some of its officials to the country an unacceptable act that undermines the rules of mutual respect in diplomatic relations.

In an immediate reaction to this decision, the Israeli regime also announced that it considered "Shaun Edward Byveldt", the South African chargé d'affaires in the occupied territories, an undesirable element. According to the regime's Foreign Ministry, the diplomatic representative in Pretoria has also been given 72 hours to leave the occupied territories.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry announced in a statement that this action was taken by the decision of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar, and warned that additional measures may be considered in the future.

Relations between South Africa and the Israeli regime have been severely strained in recent months, especially in the wake of the Gaza war. Pretoria is an outspoken supporter of the Palestinian people and in December 2023, it filed a complaint with the International Criminal Court, accusing the Zionist regime of committing crimes against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip under the Convention on the Prevention of Genocide. These positions have been accompanied by strong reactions from Tel Aviv authorities.

According to observers, the exchange of expulsions of chargés-de-affaires indicates that relations between South Africa and the Zionist regime have entered an unprecedented stage of diplomatic confrontation. Studies show that Pretoria's legal complaint in the International Court of Justice and its open support for the Palestinians have become one of the main factors escalating tensions and sends a clear message from South Africa to the international community about the need for the Zionist regime to be held accountable.
